We Fix Comfort, Health, & Safety…

…while Increasing Home Value & Energy Efficiency

Northern Energy Services LLC performs detailed Home Energy Assessments.  We begin by learning about what your concerns and questions are, usually beginning with a phone interview. Depending on your preference, we may recommend a building analysis, a consultation, or one of our direct-install products designed for your unique home. Once on site, we will use a variety of tools to determine which repairs, upgrades, and replacements produce the best combination of comfort, air quality, and energy efficiency. We rely on our extensive hands-on experience with Maine homes, and specific home performance training.  We also make extensive use of the Efficiency Maine incentive programs to reduce the cost to you for an energy assessment.

Combustion Appliance Testing: Poisonous carbon monoxide gas is a byproduct of all combustion appliances, including fuel-burning furnaces, boilers, water-heaters, and space heaters.  We test for carbon monoxide and conduct safety tests to ensure that chimneys, flues, exhaust fans are functioning appropriately.

A large part of a home energy assessment involves measuring energy usage and efficiency both before and after to document results. The blower door test is used to determine healthy ventilation verses wasteful infiltration. The air quality in your home relies on the exchange of air from inside to outside. Northern Energy Services LLC  uses a blower door to monitor the air tightness of your home, so crews can find and seal all leaks. Reasons for establishing the proper building tightness:

  • Reducing energy consumption due to air leakage
  • Avoiding moisture condensation problems
  • Avoiding uncomfortable drafts caused by cold air leaking in from the outdoors
  • Determining how much mechanical ventilation might be needed to provide acceptable indoor air quality.
